Matter device won't pair with Home Assistant

A practical checklist for Matter pairing failures in Home Assistant.

Checklist

  1. Confirm Home Assistant Matter Server is installed and running.
  2. Keep the phone, controller, and device on the same network during commissioning.
  3. If the device uses Thread, confirm you have a working Thread border router.
  4. Factory reset the device and generate or scan a fresh Matter setup code.
  5. Check whether the device is already paired to another ecosystem and needs multi-admin sharing.
